Prague has a well-developed public transport network, consisting of the metro, tram lines, buses, and trains. The metro (subway) is the quickest way to travel long distances across the city. It has three lines: A (green), B (yellow), and C (red). It closes down for the night shortly after midnight and reopens at 5:00. Trams and buses connect the metro system to outlying areas, and are also a handy way to make short journeys in the city centre.
There are two kinds of the standard ticket: 30 CZK ticket which is valid for 30 minutes, and 40 CZK ticket which is valid for 90 minutes. Paper tickets have to be validated upon entering the metro / bus / tram. In most trams, it is also possible to buy tickets by contactless cards.
It is possible to buy a one-day (120 CZK) or a three-day (330 CZK) pass that allows unlimited travel.

Getting to the City Centre from the Main Railway Station
The easiest way to get to the city centre from the Prague main railway station is by tram 15 (stop Dlouhá třída). The ride takes about 10 minutes. The railway station is also directly connected with the red metro line (C).
Getting to the City Centre from the Václav Havel Airport
The best way to get from the airport to the city centre is to take the 119 bus, change to the metro line A (green) at Nádraží Veleslavín, and get off at Staroměstská. The ticket costs 40 CZK, which is about 1.60 EUR, and the trip takes about 30 minutes. At all metro stations, it is now possible to pay for tickets by card. The Faculty of Arts is located right next to the Staroměstská metro station.

If you prefer a taxi, look out for the AAA company (yellow cars, +420 222 333 222; 14014, they also have an app). The price for the transport to the city centre should be around 620 CZK (25 EUR). Companies such as Uber and Liftago also operate in Prague.
Some taxi companies do not enjoy a good reputation in Prague, and public transport is much cheaper and more reliable. There is no standard price for taxi services, but drivers are required to display their prices, usually on the door. A reasonable price is around CZK 28 per km, but it is a good idea to agree on a price before you commit to a ride, and be sure that the meter is running while you are in the taxi.
